Freebie: SKW Cluster Game for Spring!

By March 28, 20133 Comments

Here is a freebie for you.  I made this game for my students working on the SKW 3-element complex clusters.  I needed a home practice activity for one student in particular who was really doing well in speech therapy, but needed more home practice.  So wha-la! I use Jennifer Taps’ model for assessment and therapy for articulation and phonological disorders.  I follow her program closely and used the targets she recommends in this game.  If you don’t know about her research based therapy approach for articulation and phonological disorders you NEED to check it out now.  Her website is called SLPath.com.  If you are familiar with Jennifer Taps and her research, then you will be able to print this and use it today.  If not, please take the time to read through her site.  It will change how you think about, assess, and treat articulation and phonological disorders.

Anyway, for this little game you will need to use your own dice and place markers, but just print out the game board, picture cards, and word list.  On the word list, I included some SKW cluster words that have the /r/ sound in them.  You may or may not want to use these /r/ words if your client has a really hard time with the /r/ sound.
You and your speech kiddos will have fun as you help this mama birdie find her baby birdie who was just so excited about spring that she wandered off to see a very pretty tree.  You can use this one in a pinch for speech therapy or as a homework game to send home.

You can pretty much just get some dice and place markers and play! In between players taking turns, they will choose a picture card to read and practice saying their skw cluster. You can determine how many words or productions of each word your client says. Hope that makes sense. It’s super easy. I like to keep things simple so I can maximize time spent on actual therapy goals!

  • Worthwhile information. Fortuitous me I ran across your web site out of the blue, and I’m amazed the key reason why this kind of automobile accident didn’t came into being previously! We saved it.
