My Life

Faith Over Fear

By March 26, 202015 Comments

I just wanted to check in on you all and see how life is for you where ever in the USA and world you are. I know that during times like these, when we feel the fear and uncertainty all around us and even rising up inside our own hearts, it takes intentionality to not let thoughts run wild! About 3 months ago, I felt the Lord put in my heart to memorize Psalm 91. I have always LOVED Psalm 91 – it is such a powerful Psalm and declares the promises of God to give His people supernatural protection. I wanted to share it with you and encourage you that you can trust God. You can trust His faithfulness. He is the one who holds our entire universe together.

In Genesis, the first book of the Bible or Torah, God tells Abraham “I am your shield!” I love that. God is your shield today and everyday. I don’t believe God ever causes evil – we live in a fallen world since the fall of man in the garden of Eden. But I do know that God says He works all things together for our good. He can bring good out of even the worst situations. I know right now there is an incredible amount of suffering going on in our country and in countries all over the world. My heart has been crying out to God to heal those hurting, those who are sick, and above all, declaring an end to the virus and that it would die and it would no longer be able to infect another person ever again.

I am praying for you today, too. I love our community here of SLPs and friends that I have made over the last several years. What can I do to serve you in this time? I have waived the copyright for my free resources for the next few months so SLPs can widely copy and distribute them to families. But what else do you need? Comment below how I can pray for you or if there is anything else you need! If you are lonely, scared, sad, angry, confused, fearful, anxious, depressed….Jesus says to you today, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Yeshua Hamashiach). Philippians 4: 6-7

Here is Psalm 91 – my prayer for you, our country and our world! I say this everyday – all day! haha God knew I needed to have it memorized for such a time as this! I have to choose everyday to live in faith and not fear. Living in faith doesn’t mean we don’t use the wisdom of God, it just means that we chose to trust that our Creator God, the one who created you and loves you, is going to help us and take care of us – we can rest in His hands!

Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God

91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the [a]fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and [b]buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
12 In their hands they shall [c]bear you up,
Lest you [d]dash your foot against a stone.
13 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,
The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

14 “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will [e]set him on high, because he has known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With [f]long life I will satisfy him,
And show him My salvation.”

Love and blessings xoxo!!

    It was such a blessing to read your post on the virus – yes and Amen, Faith over Fear. I found your website when browsing sites for speech therapy activities for distant learning. I saw Psalm 91 and found a fellow sister in the Lord. So blessed to find a speech pathologist who is a Christian. I have worked in the schools in Michigan almost 20 years with students with autism. We are going to set up a platform to continue therapy services and are new to telepractice. I’m also not very tech savvy so I might reach out to you in the “near” future. Thanks for being a “Light” in these “dark” times.

      Hi Kathryn!
      Aw that is amazing! I have lots of family in Michigan! I know this whole transition to tech stuff is a little nerve-wracking! I am with you on that! ha! Thank you so much for reaching out! I love connecting with other Christian SLPs. I truly feel it is such a gift to be used in anyway in our amazing community of SLPs! God bless you!
      Love,
      Heather

    THANK YOU for this post. I needed this!!!! Especially this morning. I too work with Children with Autism (2-5 year olds). We are starting teletherapy today. I’ve been a SLP for 16 years and not very “techy”. My co-workers and I have been ‘practicing” with Zoom. One thing this experience has taught me is PATIENCE!!! I am reminded to SLOW down. Again thank you for sharing. God has a plan for us, we just need to find the way to do our best.

      Hi Michele,
      Yes, I agree! We are all on a tech learning curve! It has taken me time to adjust and figure it all out too! Yes, I am always encouraged that even in crazy situations and circumstances, the Lord has a plan and can use it to bring about His purposes in our lives and in the world. It brings me comfort to know He has it figured out. Thank you so much for your words!! It means so much to me!
      Love,
      Heather

    • Heather says:

      Hi Kelly! Aw, that means so much to me! I so appreciate your words! Praying you are resting in the Lord’s faithfulness even in times of uncertainty! We will get through this because God has never let His people down!

    Thank you Heather for your witness and encouraging words. A simple click on Uncategorized led me here and it turned in to a great little morning devotion reading Ps. 91. Thank you so much for providing your wonderful articulation practice sheets.

    • Heather says:

      Hi Kim,
      That is awesome. I love how God knows what we need when we need it! I am also reading the book with some friends from church called “Rhythms of Renewal” by Rebekah Lyons.
