My Little Hero

Hey Everyone!

I hope you all are enjoying your summer!

Just checking in to update you all on life with me! We are all doing well.  My daughter, Gianna, finished her treatment for a cancerous tumor turned stage 4 cancer.  Her type of cancer was SO rare that it only effects 1 in 2 million people!!

We are just waiting for her last surgery now.  It is just a minor surgery to remove her port (the line they implanted in her so that they could easily give her chemo and draw her blood.  It was also used for IV fluids).

We just started a new Facebook page for her so that we can keep you all updated on her health and recovery! This girl is going to change the world! She has made it through so much and we are thrilled to share her story of hope with all of you! Please LIKE her page and share it with friends!  Click Here to LIKE Gia Joy Gehringer!!!

She is beyond amazing and has gone through so much.  I cannot tell you how in awe I am of her.  We are so thankful to God for healing her and bringing us all through this.  Going through something like this with your baby changes you.  For the past 6 months we have been living in the world of childhood cancer.  I’ve seen the faces of many babies, kids, and teenagers daily fighting against this monster.  Please remember that you can make a difference by donating to organizations like Cure Search to raise money to find a cure.

We had her pictures taken recently and I wanted you all to see just how wonderful she is doing.  Isn’t she so cute?? Oh how I love that girl.  Maxine Evans Photography did these portraits of her! Check her out! She’s awesome.

She is my hero forever!

  1. Hi Heather,
I just discovered your website today. I am a slp too. I started my career in the hospitals, but decided to transition to the schools when my own children started school. You have so many wonderful things posted and I love the positive energy that comes through. Glad to hear that your little miracle girl is on the mend!

  2. Dear Heather,

As a cancer survivor I cannot imagine what your family and little Gia have gone through.

You will all be stronger because of this experience.

May God always protect you and keep you and your family safe.

    God bless you!

  3. Wishing your family all the best from New Zealand. May God Bless you all and keep you strong.
    Kia Kaha

  4. Heather,

I work for a Head Start program and was in search of speech and language screening tools to use with our children. My search brought me to this website, and your personal story so beautifully written.

No words can describe the empathy and compassion that I feel for you, your husband, and Gia Joy. I have a two year old daughter (I became a new Mother in my 40’s!) and I know that watching your child suffer is the worst form of torture for a parent.

Through my personal and professional life, I have known many adults and children with cancer, several of whom were given very bad prognosis by doctors, who actually beat their cancer and are now living a cancer free life. Little children who are now healthy and happy teenagers. Positive thinking and getting second, third and fourth opinions is essential when something doesn’t sound right to you.

God Bless you and your beautiful family!

    • HI Lisa!!
Oh you are so sweet!! Congratulations on your baby girl!! 🙂 Yes, watching your baby go through so much trauma is just beyond horrific. It is something no mommy or daddy should ever have to see – or any child to have to endure! Thank you thank you for your very kind and encouraging words!! It blesses me so much!!! xoxo
      God bless you!!

  6. Wishing Gianna all the best!! thx for sharing the story of this amazing little girl and family! God Bless, Sheila
